Glossary ↗Lifecycle Email
Lifecycle email is a strategy of sending automated, behavior-triggered messages matched to each stage of a customer's journey — onboarding, activation, engagement, retention, expansion, and win-back — instead of blasting the same newsletter to everyone. A new signup gets a setup nudge; a stalled trial gets a re-engagement prompt; a power user gets an upsell. Messages fire from user actions or inaction rather than a calendar. For SaaS founders it's one of the highest-ROI growth channels because it runs automatically and lifts activation and retention, the metrics that drive recurring revenue. Why it matters: generic broadcasts underperform; relevance to where someone is in their journey drives opens and action. Practical note: start with two or three high-leverage flows — a welcome/onboarding sequence, a trial-conversion series, and a dormant-user win-back — before building elaborate branching. Tie each email to a single measurable goal, and suppress messages once the goal is met.
