Alternatives to Airtable

Airtable is rarely replaced because it stopped working. It gets replaced because of the bill: it prices in seats and in record limits per base, and its own notes name row limits on lower tiers and cost at scale as the two complaints. There is a second reason, quieter and more important, which is that a great many Airtable bases are not really databases. They are trackers, or wikis with a table in them, or an app that never got built. This ranking is ordered by which of those you have. The first two entries replace Airtable outright for the right shape of work; the rest replace one layer of it, and each says which layer, because swapping the wrong one is how a migration ends with two subscriptions instead of none.

FAQ

FAQ

Is Airtable a database?
It is a spreadsheet-database hybrid that also acts as a backend for no-code tools like Softr and Glide.
What are the real limits of the Airtable free plan?
Records per base, which is the limit that actually bites — Airtable's own listed drawback is row limits on lower tiers, and a base fills faster than most people expect once it is genuinely in use. Estimate your record count over a year, not a month, before you treat the free tier as a destination.
When should I move off Airtable?
When the record count or the bill says so — it names needing a true relational SQL database and very high record volumes as reasons to look elsewhere, and lists pricing at scale among its drawbacks. Until then the property that matters is the one those reasons never mention: it is a database non-developers will actually maintain, which is usually worth more than relational purity.
Why does Airtable score 4.9 out of 5 here?
The score is computed, not assigned: 35 of 35 for documented capabilities, 22 of 25 for published pricing, 20 of 20 for free access and 20 of 20 for the integration list. It scores full marks on capabilities, which is rare. The number measures how much you can verify before paying, not how good the tool is to use.
